“I have just seen a bike you built, can you do that with mine?”, was the phone call I received from Royce. “Yep, no problem mate. What bike have you got?”. “It’s an old Fat Boy. I will send it down.” Well, the old Fat Boy had definitely seen better days and was going to need some serious work. Years in the Kimberley had not been kind to it. But under the pindan dirt, rust and wasp nests was a bike just waiting to be re-born. A full rebuild was in order and an extensive parts list was created. A complete teardown, a couple of small modifications to the frame and then off to Ryan at Custom Modifications for paint. The parts list was not for the faint hearted. An S&S 111ci crate motor, Belt Drives Limited Top Fuel belt drive, Performance Machine Phatail conversion kit, Performance Machine Paramount wheels, rotors and pulley, Performance Machine calipers and forward controls, Arlen Ness Smooth Hot Legs fork legs, Russ Wernimont Designs front fender, Burleigh 16” Highball handlebars, Magnum Shielding braided cables, chrome hand controls, Arlen Ness Rad II mirrors, Rollies under perch indicators, a Hoglights 7″ chrome LED halo headlight, Blow exhaust system, and finally a Speed Hut GPS speedo and stretched tanks. PHEW! After Ryan had laid down a base coat of Toyota’s metal storm paint, we had our talented local air brusher Gypsy from Alchemy Airbrushing do his thing on the tanks, guards and even the primary belt. Once everything was sealed in with a clear coat, it was time to reassemble this beast and fire it up. This one you can see and hear coming from a mile away!
